The copper red is probably my favourite glaze! Steep in Legend and mystery as to how it was found. We seldom do it as it is a different firing condition to the rest of the ranges. It is a very fickle colour to achieve and is a challenge.

The legend.
A Chinese potter's kiln boy went missing during a firing of the Dragon Kiln. After the kiln was unloaded there was still no sign of the boy! But what was reveiled on unloading the kiln was the most beautiful red glaze...
Red being the colour of luck and prosperity, the Emperor demanded the red vases for all his palaces.
After many frustrating years of failure, the potter threw himself into the white hot kiln. When the kiln had cooled the elusive red had finally been produced.
These days we don’t need to take such drastic action, but the copper red remains as elusive as ever, a favoured glaze of collectors as a standard in quality and classic beauty.
